Will Cash Quartet -
I am at the moment listening to the Will Cash Quartet on their myspace page. Which you can find here: Will Cash Quartet I mention it because you have a chance to hear them live and in person on Friday night at Ona’s Music Room.
The tune in particular is “Billies Bounce”. You can learn more about the tune by going to http://www.jazzstandards.com/compositions-1/billiesbounce.htm where you will learn, if you didn’t already know, that it is an F-major blues by Charlie Parker recorded November 1945. That band included Miles Davis, Max Roach, Curley Russell and Dizzy Gillespie (on piano).
The Will Cash Quartet consists of a group of locals: Will Cash -(Guitar), Aaron Branson -(Bass), Mac Kramer -(Drums), Peyton Grant - (piano,organ), Also: Lonnie Jones & Doug Norton on Sax, and Omari Thomas on Trumpet. I am hoping that Mr. Thomas shows up. But I expect to enjoy the show if it is anything like the recordings on the site. I will let you know, but it would be better for you to be there to hear it yourself.
I’m happy to see another jazz group forming up. I am embarrassed to admit that I have not heard of this group before, though I have heard some of the members.
While I am at it, you can catch the Carlos Pino Group at Marty’s on Sunday February 28. The Sunday Shows begin at 10:00 pm. Carlos is one of the nicest guitar players in town. I guess that is a little ambiguous, but I don’t really know him personally.
