Blue Light Specials
The Blue Light Specials won the 2006 Magic City Blues Society Battle of the Blues Bands, band category representing the Society at the 2007 International Blues Challenge in Memphis earlier this year.
Founding member, vocalist and harp player, Jeff Cummings or “J-Ray” as friends call him has a uniquely soulful vocal style that moves audiences and is an accomplished harp man. Sharing the stage with the likes of Keb’ Mo’, Gary Clark Jr., Tab Benoit, Jimmy Thackery, Mark Sallings, Bryan Lee & the Blues Power, Sean Costello, Johnny Ray Bartel (The Red Devils) and Little Feat among others is a tip-off that this guy’s got skills. One of the coolest experiences says J-Ray was his studio harp work with Ardie Dean and T-Bone (Drummer and Bassist for Taj Mahal) as they provided the background for Sunny King, one of the last surviving country Blues men, on his recently released project.
Straight out of the “Deep South”, these four musicians from Alabama regularly “tear the house down” across the South-Eastern Blues circuit with their “in your face” style of raw, un-adulterated Blues. The Blue Light Specials are a BLUES BAND in the purest sense of the word.
