MCBS benefit at Quincy’s
The next event on the docket is a benefit for the MCBS which is being put on by a number of local bands who want to help our coffers. Look for complete info soon. It will be held at the Birmingham Race Course on July 12. I can tell you it will be 4 bands for $5 and that is always a great deal. They include Midnight Train, Lenny Madden, Michael Carpenter and RoadHouse. Make plans now to attend this fine show.

This Saturday its our Magic City Blues Society “Juke Joint Night” fundraiser. This fundraiser was organized by several local bands who want to donate their time to help the Society. There is a requested minimum $5 donation. The MC will be our friend Lenny Madden who will get things going, and then we have Michael Carpenter, John_Alex Mason, Roadhouse, and Midnight Train.
John_Alex Mason is a very talented one man band from Colorado, who was introduced to Southern Blues by his nanny, a lady from Birmingham who used to take him to her gospel church every Sunday. Check out his web site http://www.johnalexmason.com
He played our first Junk Yard Juke earlier this year. I had invited him to play at Gip’s this Saturday and he agreed. Then we found out the date clashed with the MCBS fundraiser. We wanted him at Gip’s but we also knew a lot of people would want to go and see and support Michael Carpenter, Roadhouse and Midnight Train. After some discussion it seemed best to support the fundraiser. John_Alex agreed but said he really wants to play at Gip’s and will do so when he comes back to town on October 25th.
So please come on over Saturday for a great evening of blues, oh and I should mention its okay to bring friends.

When Mr. Gip heard that Burly Earl had closed he invited them to play a private concert at his place. Music starts at 9pm this Saturday. BYOB.
