Open Mic
Time for another Open Mic at The Burly Earl this Thursday (3/27) starting at 7pm.
Obviously it’s a easy going & VERY casual event -
Plenty of opportunity to ‘sit in’ with others if that’s your thang. It’s been well attended by players/singers from beginners to really good musicians
This is early night for those who like to throw out some tuneage and get home at a decent hour. Slots are limited & can fill up early so keep that in mind

April Open Jam
Hey everybody, our open jam on April 18th at the Burly Earl. Starts at 7:30 pm(click the “read more” for a map) will be a benefit for the Autism Society of Alabama. April is autism awareness month and I think we all know someone who has an autistic family member. My nephew is autistic. I know open jams are usually free, butt in this case, we are “suggesting” a $5 donation at the door. Check out the link for more info. Blues Jam for Autism

Blue Mail
Hey everybody, thanks to all who came out to the spring edition of the Junkyard Juke. We dodged the storms all day long and it turned out to be a wonderful day. I want to thank all the volunteers that helped setup, run the site and breakdown at the end. Check out pictures of the event shot by Larry Gay.
The next event will be the first Phelan Park Music Series concert for 2008. Little G. Weevil will be the featured entertainment on April 13.
The next Open jam will be on April 18. It will be a benefit for a needy organization. Stay tuned for more details.

Auctions
Christie’s is auctioning some guitars. Several Gibsons (I saw a Les Paul from 1960, a 1938 D-28 Martin, etc). There are some Fenders as well. The nicest guitar is a 1928 Hermann Hauser Sr. (Wonder what it sounds like).
Also for the fiddlers in the crowd, a circa 1700 Stradivarius (the one known as “The Penny"). Expected to go for 1,000,000 to 1,500,000 (that’s dollars, not pennys). It ain’t Ebay, but still.

I am not sure of the broadcast schedule. New things and old. I am listening to an interview with Van Morrison right now.
They are discussing the meaning of the word “entrainment”. Quoting the Concise Oxford English Dictionary. Huh!

From the Prez
Hey everybody, are you ready for a big Blues weekend? Bobby Rush is tonight and the JunkYard Juke will be tomorrow. There is also good music in the clubs as well. George Thorogood plays at the Alabama Theater on Sunday. If you are going to the show, check out Jim Suhler, who is the opening act. He is a great Texas style Blues guitar player.
OK…I will have to say that I have been freaking out all week about the rain expected today through tomorrow morning. The bottom line is the storms should push through and we should be fine with the weather by mid-day. We will have the event as planned.
We can always use volunteers to help set up, man the front gate and help at the membership/merchandise table. Please respond if you can help us out.
We are having a sale on MCBS t-shirts tomorrow, so bring a little extra cash for that. Also, we encourage everybody who gets Bluemail to become a member. We fly by the seat of our pants and membership dollars help us to produce quality events like the JYJ.

Some events of note
This Saturday don’t miss the Junk Yard Juke, 2pm sharp next to Tres Taylors Studio at 41st St and 5th Ave in Avondale. First up is the headliner from Colorado, John-Alex Mason a one man band who plays Lowebow, National O and acoustic guitars with a strong delta sound. www.johnalexmason.com he will be followed by Elnora Spencer and the ESP band and Bruce Andrews with the Lucky Stiffs. Bad news is I’m out of town. Good news, you can still come and have a good time in this cool setting. Check out City Scene for more details. Bring your cooler and chair plus a friend or two.
